Church of the Incarnation
Who We Are:
We are an inclusive community of faith, following Jesus Christ in the Anglican way as part of the Episcopal Church (USA) in a downtown, urban environment. We recognize that Christ has no body now on earth but ours, and we are committed to carrying out Christ’s charge to love one another through service. Our abiding values are those expressed in our Baptismal Covenant with Jesus Christ, and those values guide us to practice as a community of faith at the Church of the Incarnation.
We believe that Christ calls us to strive for justice and peace among all people while respecting the dignity of every human being. While we are partners in God’s work throughout the world, we are called in particular to recognize the needs of the community where we live, work, and worship and to provide ministry inside and outside our congregation to address those needs.
What We Do:
• We provide a worship service that is vibrant, beautiful, meaningful, and authentic and invite all who seek Christ to join us in fellowship and the breaking of the bread.
• We pray for those who are in need of God’s grace and provide opportunities for healing through worship and prayer.
• We seek and serve Christ in all persons -- regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, economic status, or religious background – and so truly love our neighbors as ourselves.
• We provide services to those most vulnerable and most in need in our community -- the homeless, the elderly, the infirm, the children -- and actively work with other churches and community groups to facilitate the delivery of these services.
• We actively involve and engage our church in the community by speaking and acting publicly on issues of peace and justice for all creation.
• We see our church as a cultural center for our downtown community: a place where art and spirituality combine. We provide music and cultural programs for the public as well as to enhance our own worship services.
• We take seriously the formation of lay ministry -- emphasizing spiritual formation, biblical education, and prayer -- and empower the laity to use their spiritual gifts, interests, and passions for service.
• We seek to build, strengthen, and sustain community among church members and others through the development of a strong and diverse small groups ministry.
• We communicate effectively inside our church and outside with the community.
• We manage conflicts with practices that foster direct communication with respect and acceptance of differing opinions and that reflect a theology of reconciliation.
