Christian Formation
Children, Youth & Young Adults
Children are central to the mission of the Episcopal Church. We value children and youth, and put our resources to work on their behalf. Church School, youth groups, and music and art camps are places where the adult community nurtures children, ministers to and advocates on behalf of children, and supports children in their ministries, remembering that "it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs" (Mark 10:14). If you are interested in joining a teaching team, please contact Daphne Vernon for an interview. Training is required.
Christian Formation Commission
2nd Tuesdays 7:00 - 8:30 pm
The Commission oversees the implementation of the Christian Formation programs of the church by reviewing programs, staffing, and facilities and by designing new programs. We invite anyone who is interested in Christian education for children, teens and adults to attend our meetings.
Preparation for Baptism & Communion
You may contact our staff about having your child baptized. Most often baptisms occur in the context of Sunday worship, and there are certain Sundays of the year when baptisms are particularly appropriate. Parents and godparents of infants or young children meet with clergy or staff to prepare for baptism; older children or youth to be baptized will also receive instruction to prepare them for the sacrament of initiation. All who seek communion with God are welcome here, and we hold regular classes for young children on the meaning of the sacrament. Please contact one of the clergy if you are interested in these classes. Confirmation classes will be held for senior high youth who are in their second year of Journey into Adulthood, beginning in February 2003. Teen classes will meet weekly on Sunday afternoons.
Safe Guarding Our Children Training
We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing holy space for all of the children, youth and adults who come to worship and learn with us. All leaders, volunteer and paid, who work with children and youth are screened and attend our annual training workshops for abuse recognition and prevention.
