What Are Short Walks?
Short Walks is a small group that facilitates theological discussion for the purpose of discerning call, building community, developing relationship with God, and ministry development. Ultimately, the goal is to learn how to make church happen where you are, not just in the sanctuary.
Why are we here?
We are here to learn about our neighbor, our church, our community, and ourselves.
What are our Agreements?
Our Agreement with God
- To love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy. (Luke 12:28)
- Love others as well as you love yourself. (Luke 12:29)
- The Baptismal Covenant (BCP pg 304)
- To believe in the indwelling Triune God.
- To continue the Apostle’s teaching and fellowship, the breaking of bread, and an active prayer life.
- To resist evil in all its forms, and to repent when you have been overwhelmed by sin.
- To Proclaim the Good News of the Resurrected Christ.
- To seek and serve Christ in all persons, to Love your Neighbor as yourself.
- To bring justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.
Our Agreement with the Church
- Christ Has No Body But Ours Now.
- The Five Marks of Mission
- To Proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
- To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
- To respond to human need by loving service
- To seek to transform unjust structures of society.
- To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and
renew the life of the Earth.
- The Incarnation Mission Statement
It should be noted that all of the above mentioned documents contain much of the same instruction.
Our Goals
- To learn about the Mission of the Church and how to incorporate it into our own lives.
- To learn about one another and to support each other in our individual and community ministry.
- To learn about our larger community and the Church’s role in the community.
- To discover new ways of opening our Sanctuary doors to our neighbors in our community.
- To become theologically conversant in a way that is both missional and contextual.
Some Terms to Know:
Missio Dei- is a Latin Christian theological term that can be translated as the "sending of God." Mission is understood as being derived from the very nature of God. Mission was understood as being derived from the very nature of God. The classical doctrine on the Missio Dei as God the Father sending the Son, and God the Father and the Son sending the Spirit was expanded to include yet another “movement”: The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit sending the church into the world.
Mixed Economy Church- a church that uses both traditional and emerging forms of worship side by side to serve all segments of our changing culture.
